After doing my AIDA ** freediving course with Deeper Blue in June 08, I then didn't have chance to do any more training until August, I then did two or three weekends a month through to the end of October, training was progressing well and I'd booked a course with William Trubridge in November 08 at Dean's Blue hole, Long Island in the Bahamas.
This has to be one, of if not the best freediving location, 203m deep and sheltered from any current or waves.
Much to my extreme disappointment I found I had equalizing problems with my right ear from day one which lasted throughout my stay. Having never had any problems equalizing before and touching wood none since, it was so frustrating to be in such a perfect place to freedive, and not being able to take full advantage of the course. I couldn't even equalize the right ear on land properly so there was little chance of getting it right underwater, I felt pretty lousy during the second week and fell ill on the flight back, arriving back in the UK with a virus, I couldn't in fact equalize the right ear on land for a good month after my return. All then went back to normal, hopefully the problem was a one off that won't hinder me again.
Great place for freediving... but not so great to be having equalising problems after going all that way to dive... maybe one day I'll return...
